North Mid and Royal Free NHS Trusts to merge

Following several years of closer working between North Middlesex University Hospital NHS Trust and the Royal Free London group, the two trusts are coming together as one organisation.

They have been developing plans for North Mid to merge into the Royal Free London group alongside Barnet Hospital, Chase Farm Hospital and the Royal Free Hospital.

The NHS states that patients will still be referred to their usual local hospital and that hospitals will continue to provide the same routine services for their local patients. At North Mid, these include A&E, maternity, intensive care, paediatrics, acute surgery, acute medicine and community services.

The NHS states that the increased scale of the group will allow them to go further in redesigning services to reduce unwarranted variation, ensuring all patients receive the same high quality care regardless of where they live.
